The Use of Present Perfect<\/h3>\n

Present Perfect is used to describe:<\/p>\n

\n
• An action or situation that started in the past and continues in the present.
  \nI have lived in Bristol since 1984<\/em> (= and I still do.)<\/li>\n
• An action performed during a period that has not yet finished.
  \nShe has been to the cinema twice this week<\/em> (= and the week isn’t over yet.)<\/li>\n
• A repeated action in an unspecified period between the past and now.
  \nWe have visited Portugal several times.<\/em><\/li>\n
• An action that was completed in the very recent past, expressed by ‘just’.
  \nI have just finished my work.<\/em><\/li>\n
• An action when the time is not important.
  \nHe has read ‘War and Peace’.<\/em> (= the result of his reading is important).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
